Backyard Makeover: Part I

Maybe it’s that first year homeowner’s itch, but Fiance and I couldn’t help ourselves. We were in our kitchen one day, looking out into the yard and starting talking about all the fun BBQ’s it will hold. We love entertaining and acknowledge that our house is the gathering place for family and friends. It’s not just about us, it’s about creating an environment where company feels welcome.

We hashed out the ideas that started coming to mind and then we looked at each other in silence. We each knew what the other person was thinking… time to makeover that backyard.

Fast forward one week later and I’m uploading monoliths from my yard on Facebook 🙂 In the spirit of DYI, we gathered up the strongest men we know (thanks Caesar, Tutu & Dmo) to help us with some basic, rudimentary items. What’s rudimentary?… things like mixing concrete, leveling the ground, removing monoliths from the earth, re-arranging pipes, re-creating a drain and putting down those beautiful cobblestones we picked up a few nights ago.

On this project, I’m water pale girl. I assist with water, food and beer. Also, the occasional stirring of the concrete mix which is really like mixing cookie dough, except with a shovel and more back muscle is involved.

Here is day one of our backyard makeover

About Maya

I like words like "labyrinthian," "kerfuffle," and "serendipitous" because they're mellifluous. I love poetry, pumpkin ales, sangria, long summer days, Fall foliage, going out of my way to step on crunchy leaves in October, live music, Jazz, Salsa dancing, theater, film (foreign and indie), the arts (myriad varieties), dance (in theory and practice) and any place where I can sit outdoors and take it all in.

Will there be more fun times like this that I may assist with my mathematical calculations of how much beer influences the productivity of such speedo wearing men and their friends lol
